Germany’s ‘Dangerous Truth’ Boarded By OneGate Media & Bravado Equity

EXCLUSIVE: More partners have joined ARD‘s German political thriller series Dangerous Truth (Das Zweite Attentat).

Munich-based distributor OneGate Media and Bravado Equity, a subsidiary of Eric Welbers’ Bravado Media, have boarded as global distributor and gap financier, respectively. They join co-production partners EIKON Media, WDR and ARD Degeto Film along with Deal Productions (Stargazer, Tamara) in Luxembourg for ARD.

Inspired by true events that took place in the lead up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the six-part, German-language drama centers around 35-year-old Alexander Jaromin, who for 20 years has been living with his mother in Athens under assumed identities in the witness protection program of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) after his father and sister were killed in a terrorist attack. Tormented by the unknown, Alexander begins a desperate search to uncover the truth and soon finds himself under the close watch of the Federal Intelligence Service, with his life in danger as he ends up in a race against time in which he must do whatever it takes to uncover the truth.

Cast includes Desirée Nosbusch (Bad Banks, Sisi), Jakob Diehl (All Quiet on the Western FrontThe Forgotten Battle), Noah Saavedra (Spectre, Why Not You), Daniel Lommatzsch (Am Ende ist Man Tot, Tatort) and Deleila Piasko (Agent Hamilton, A Stasi Comedy).

The series was filmed across Greece, Germany and Luxembourg and directed by The Swarm and Concordia director Barbara Eder alongside Hamburg-based director Philipp Osthus. Writers are Julia Neumann, Benjamin Karalic, Ulf Tschauder, and Christoph Darnstädt. Mario Krebs produces for EIKON, and Alexandra Hoesdorff and Désirée Nosbusch from Deal Productions are co-producers. Ole Landsjöaasen and Heike Stephan are also producers and editorial responsibility for the series is held by Elke Kimmlinger from WDR and Christoph Pellander at ARD Degeto Film. Support comes from Film Foundation NRW, German Motion Picture Fund, Film Fund Luxembourg and the Greek EKOME.

“In today’s market, new partnerships, strategic networks, and flexibility are essential to be able to collaborate on high quality content like Dangerous Truth,” said Tania Reichert-Facilides, CEO of OneGate Media, which is part of Studio Hamburg Group and a sales subsidiary to the ARD network. “Our distribution expertise teamed with Ernst Ludwig Ganzert at EIKON Media on production and Eric Welbers at Bravado on financing, makes for a strong collaboration. Both companies have outstanding reputations in the industry, and we look forward to sharing this incredible series with the world.”

Former Beta exec Welbers launched Bravado in 2022 alongside David Kratz. “We are constantly looking for high-quality productions with international relevance,” he said. “We firmly believe that Dangerous Truth meets these criteria and can become an international success story. We are very excited about the partnership with OneGate Media, as our experiences and competencies perfectly complement each other for such a project.”

Eikon’s Ganzert added that the “themes and creative execution of our series are truly international, and we are confident that the series will find a global audience with the support of OneGate Media and Bravado.”
