EXCLUSIVE: Amazon Prime Video is planning another big splash for their hit series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, this time for season 2 at San Diego Comic-Con.

This year at SDCC ahead of the series Aug. 29 premiere, the streamer will host an exclusive press and influencer reception by invitation only on Thursday, July 25.

This will be followed by The Rings of Power panel in Hall H on Friday, July 26 from 11:05am-12:15pm with the series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as well as cast who’ll give fans a inside look at season 2 in Middle-earth. Then at 1:45PM at Venue 808 in San Diego, they’ll be a fan meet-and-greet with cast held in conjunction with the official Lord of the Rings fan site TORn (TheOneRing.net). On display will be a curated collection of S2’s costumes and props.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power blew the roof off SDCC two years ago with a cast and creator dinner the night before their Hall H panel, as well as a full blast of the musical score to fans at the session with composer Bear McCreary conducting a full blazing choir and orchestra. It was the first time that fans were introduced to the season one character and the actors who played them, Amazon Prime Video opening up the wrap-around screens in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center (originally installed by Warner Bros).

In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.

As previously announced, season 2 will introduce the beloved character from the J.R.R. Tolkien novel, Tom Bombadil played by Rory Kinnear. In the novel, Bombadil saves Frodo and the other hobbits from myriad perils. In season 2, Bombadil encounters the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and his Harfoot friends Nori (Markella Kavenagh) and Poppy (Megan Richards) on their journey to eastern Middle-earth.

Season one of The Rings of Power was watch by more than 100 million people around the globe with more than 32 billion minutes streamed. The series pulled in more than 25 million global viewers on its first day, marking the biggest premiere in the history of Prime Video, and also debuted as the No. 1 show on Nielsen’s overall streaming chart in its opening weekend. The show has driven more Prime sign-ups worldwide during its launch window than any other previous content to date.

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is produced by showrunners and executive producers Payne & McKay. They are joined by EPs Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, along with co-EP and director Charlotte Brändström, producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang, and co-producers Clare Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenise Mullins, and Matthew Penry-Davey. Additional Season Two directors include Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper.

Ciarán Hinds and Tanya Moodie star in season 2 in addition to Sam Hazeldine, who takes on the role of Orc leader Adar, replacing Joseph Mawle, who portrayed the character in Season 1. Also starring are Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen ‘Zates’ Atour, Ben Daniels, newcomer Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, Nicholas Woodeson, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb, Kevin Eldon, Will Keen, Selina Lo and Calam Lynch.
