Alec Baldwin is finally standing trial for involuntary manslaughter in New Mexico nearly three years after the customized Colt .45 he held on the set of the indie Western Rust shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March. She was also charged with evidence tampering, but the split verdict she received lowered the three-year prison sentence she faced; she is now serving 18 months in a New Mexico state prison.

Baldwin first appeared at Santa Fe’s First Judicial District Courthouse for the trial on Monday for a pre-trial hearing, followed by jury selection Tuesday.
